The Boys

of Syracuse

The Boys from Syracuse is a musical comedy based on Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors. It follows two sets of identical twins—Antipholus and Dromio of Syracuse, and Antipholus and Dromio of Ephesus—separated in a shipwreck, who create chaotic, mistaken-identity scenarios in Ephesus.

When the pair from Syracuse travels to Ephesus, the locals mistake them for their long-lost brothers who already live there. This leads to a frantic series of mix-ups involving confused wives, angry creditors, and accidental romances.

The show is famous for being the first musical adapted from Shakespeare and for its witty, jazzy score by Rodgers and Hart. Instead of a heavy drama, it plays out like a fast-paced sitcom filled with slapstick humor and classic songs like "This Can't Be Love." Ultimately, the chaos is resolved when the two sets of twins finally come face-to-face, clearing up the confusion and reuniting the family.
